I was involved in full-cycle cost management from initial scheme through to opening — covering cost planning, investment control, cost management and procurement management. From the earliest cost assessments as brand standards were being established, through to the final procurement before opening, I was present throughout. As the global debut of the brand, the project had no precedent to draw on for translating brand standards into cost, balancing design against budget, or building a procurement framework — every judgment had to be constructed from first principles.
